The water temps are starting to heat up and so is the fishing. You don't have to travel to Mexico (although it would be badass) to find a trophy sized bass, hit up some of the local ponds and lakes. I was able to sight fish this dude and got him to take a modified black and uv Slumpbuster. You also don't have to go the larger lakes/reservoirs to catch nice bass. The Midwest specifically Kansas City area has many conservation areas that have public fishing opportunities if you want to search for some to check out go to the Missouri Conservation website www.mdc.mo/gov.com and you can search by county for some of these areas. You never know your next trophy bass could be in any of them.
The local reservoirs are starting to produce some pretty quality White bass, Drum, and Channel Cats on the dams and under the spillways. I've been throwing small black zonkers weighted lightly with beadchain eyes to all three of those species. Everything is still pretty close to the bottom so dredging has been the most successful. Doing this, you also have the chance to pick up some other goodies sitting in the rocks!
The Gar are also starting to become active in local creeks. I have been absolutely slaying them the past few days on my lunch break. Nothing of size, but any gar on the fly is fun. Just make sure you have your forceps.
