Lately I’ve been reminiscing about my trip to Colorado last October and thinking about how badly I want to go back. My awesome wife gave me the gift of a fishing trip to anywhere I wanted to go, within reason of course. I headed west and met up with Rob Griggs aka The Trout Sniper at a retail store parking lot, shook hands and off we went to chase some carp on a stretch of the South Platte through Denver. Casting to cruising pods of 20+ carp was not something I was used to. I managed to put one to the net and Rob and Daniel put the hammer down! These guys know carp fishing in Colorado.
Deckers is where I realized I sucked at sight fishing and so do $35 polarized lenses. I’m used to aggressive trout that will move for a meal of any size, not those that want it bounced off their chin and shoved up their nose before they will make a decision. With a little bit of coaching I hooked into a few gorgeous rainbows and got to watch the sniper at work, dude can sleigh for sure. Daniel showed me around on the beautiful Blue River.
To top of the trip, Rob took me to some private water where I caught my first and only cutty and some hard fighting Donaldson trout. These “super trout” are a mix of steelhead, cutthroat and rainbow trout and just when you think the fight is over, it’s not! I had a blast to say the least. If you are looking to book a fishing trip to Colorado I highly recommend the Trout Sniper as your guide. Rob is a pro and all around good guy with the singing voice of an angel. Just Google and you’ll find him.
